Thailand's Transport Ministry is pushing airlines to open direct India to Chiang Mai routes, after talks with India's ambassador in late July 2026. Nothing is scheduled yet. But if a nonstop lands, the single biggest friction point in an Indian golf trip to northern Thailand disappears.
What was agreed?
Nothing binding. The meeting at the Transport Ministry put direct Chiang Mai to India flights at the top of the agenda, reported on July 24, 2026 by The Thaiger. The ministry's position is that it will encourage carriers to link major cities on both sides, and that a direct CNX service spreads tourism income beyond Bangkok into the north.

What does the Bangkok connection cost a golfer today?
Half a day and a bag transfer. Every Indian golfer we fly to Chiang Mai currently clears Bangkok, moves a travel bag through a domestic connection, and lands north too late to play. That is why we build shorter trips around a day-two first tee.
A nonstop changes the arithmetic on short itineraries most. Does this change what you should book for November to February?
Not your dates. Your booking order.
Cool season runs November through February and that window does not move. What a new route would move is how early the good tee times go. Airline schedules for a new international service publish months ahead. Peak-season tee sheets at the top courses fill earlier than that, every year.
What should Indian golfers do right now?
Book the ground first. Fix rounds, hotel and transfers, then buy air when schedules publish. Watch for route filings from Indian carriers into CNX rather than press statements from either ministry.
