Chiangmai Inthanon Golf and Natural Resort is the cheapest championship-length round in the region. For a ฿1,400 green fee, ฿2,400 all-in with caddie and cart, you get a 7,268 yard Supachai Silamom layout under Doi Inthanon, Thailand's highest mountain. The trade-offs are a 40 minute drive south and conditioning that reviewers say has slipped. Here is our honest assessment.
Is Chiangmai Inthanon worth the 40 minute drive south?
Yes for value hunters and long hitters: a full championship 7,268 yard course for ฿2,400 all-in, with the quietest fairways in the region.
Chiangmai Inthanon Golf and Natural Resort opened in 2009 in the Chom Thong area, about 40 km south of Chiang Mai city on the road toward Doi Inthanon National Park. Thai architect Supachai Silamom laid it out at 7,268 yards from the tips, which made it the longest course in the Chiang Mai region at opening. Creeks cross the property throughout, and agent course guides list water in play on 12 of the 18 holes.
Because Chom Thong sits well away from the Mae Rim golf corridor north of the city, the course sees far less traffic than the premium venues. On our visits the first tee has been open on arrival, something you will not see at Alpine Golf Resort on a cool-season weekend.
What does a round at Chiangmai Inthanon cost in 2026?
฿1,400 green fee weekday and weekend, ฿300 caddie, ฿700 cart: ฿2,400 all-in before the customary ฿400 to ฿600 caddie tip.
The LENGOLF course guide (accessed 2026-08-19) lists the green fee at ฿1,400 with no weekend surcharge, plus ฿300 for the mandatory caddie and ฿700 for the cart. Some agents quote a lower all-in afternoon rate after 1 pm, so confirm the exact figure at booking.
For context, green-season all-in rates at Chiang Mai Highlands run ฿3,400 and Alpine ฿3,700 (CMGT Golf, 2026). Inthanon undercuts both by around ฿1,000 a round. Our green fee comparison for every Chiang Mai course puts the whole market side by side.
How hard does the 7,268 yard layout play?
Long but fair: five tee decks from 5,658 to 7,268 yards, gently rolling ground, an easy opening stretch and a tougher closing run.
The course's published card (accessed 2026-08-19) shows black tees at 7,268 yards, blue 6,898, white 6,548, yellow 6,098 and red 5,658. The opening holes are forgiving, then the finishing stretch tightens with water and length. Off the blacks this is one of the sternest driving tests in the north. Off the whites it is a pleasant resort round with real Doi Inthanon views on most holes.
What is the conditioning really like right now?
Mixed and trending down: recent visitor reports describe weeds in fairways, leaf litter and thin bunker sand. Price the round accordingly.
This is the caveat that decides whether Inthanon belongs on your trip. Reviews on the course's agent listing describe fairways covered in leaves, weeds encroaching onto greens, and bunkers with little sand. That matches the pattern we hear from guests: greens usually putt acceptably, surrounds and bunkers are the weak point, and presentation is best November to February.
Set expectations against the fee. At ฿2,400 all-in you are paying roughly two thirds of a Highlands round; you should expect roughly two thirds of the conditioning. Golfers who want tournament-grade surfaces should read our Chiang Mai Highlands review instead and pay the difference.
How do you get there from the city?
Drive 40 km south on Highway 108 to Chom Thong, about 40 minutes by private car. Grab out is easy, Grab back is not.
The course sits at Khuang Pao, Chom Thong, roughly 40 minutes from a city hotel. A Grab will take you there in the morning, but return cars from rural Chom Thong are scarce after lunch, and a driver waiting four and a half hours is not guaranteed. A pre-booked private round trip runs about ฿1,400 to ฿2,500 (CMGT Golf, 2026), or is bundled when the round is booked inside a package.
The location has one genuine bonus: non-playing partners can spend the same half day in Doi Inthanon National Park. Our guide to the best way to experience Doi Inthanon pairs neatly with a tee time here, and our Culture and Golf package is built around exactly that split.
When is the best time of year to play here?
November to February for 15 to 22C mornings and clear Doi Inthanon views. Avoid March, when burning season smoke peaks region-wide.
Cool season gives the course its best surfaces and its postcard backdrop. Green season, June to October, is the value window: mornings are usually playable, storms arrive mid-afternoon, and the quiet course gets quieter. September and October carry the heaviest rain.

How does Inthanon compare with Chiang Mai's other value rounds?
Inthanon is the longest and most scenic of the region's budget rounds; Gassan Legacy is flatter, Lanna is closer, Panorama is longer still.
| Course | All-in cost | Drive from city | Length | Standout |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chiangmai Inthanon | ฿2,400 (฿1,400 + ฿300 + ฿700) | ~40 min south | 7,268 y | Doi Inthanon views, quietest tee sheet |
| Gassan Legacy | ฿1,950 day, ฿1,650 night | 30 to 45 min, Lamphun | 6,852 y | Flattest layout, floodlit golf |
| Gassan Panorama | ฿1,950 (฿900 + ฿300 + ฿750) | 30 to 45 min, Lamphun | 7,761 y | 666 yard par 6, huge length |
| Lanna Golf Club | green fee ~฿1,350 + caddie | ~10 min from Old City | 7,172 y (27 holes) | Walking permitted, 1974 heritage |
Within that budget set, our Gassan Panorama review covers the only longer course in the region, and Lanna Golf Club is the closest option to the Old City. If it is mountain scenery you are chasing, Gassan Khuntan is the other dramatic-backdrop option, with the same conditioning warnings; see our Gassan Khuntan review before choosing between them. Every course above has its own page in the course directory, all linked from our golf hub.
Can you stay at the resort itself?
Yes. On-site rooms, restaurant, spa and driving range make a stay-and-play possible, though most of our guests day-trip from Chiang Mai.
The "natural resort" half of the name is real: accommodation, a restaurant, spa and massage, club hire and a driving range all sit on the property, per the course listing accessed 2026-08-19. A one-night stay suits a dawn tee time or a next-day national park visit. The honest downside is the evenings: Chom Thong is rural, and dining beyond the resort restaurant is limited. City hotel plus private transfer remains the setup we book most.
Does Inthanon belong in a golf package?
As round three or four, yes: it adds a cheap, long, scenic round without repeating the style of the premium venues.
A typical CMGT Golf itinerary puts Alpine and Highlands at the heart of the trip, then uses Inthanon as the change-of-pace round where the transfer logistics matter most. Package bookings through our golf hub fold in the private round-trip driver, tee time, green fee, caddie and cart, plus on-the-ground support if smoke, storms or conditioning reports force a reshuffle. Something like our Northern Value package, 4 nights and 3 rounds, is the natural home for it.
Be clear-eyed about the maths, though: for a single stand-alone round, booking Inthanon direct and arranging one transfer yourself can cost less than any package. The package case is built on multi-round trips, not one-offs. For the full picture of courses, seasons and costs, start with our complete golf in Chiang Mai guide.

How much does it cost to play Chiangmai Inthanon Golf and Natural Resort?
The published green fee is ฿1,400, the same on weekdays and weekends. Add the ฿300 caddie fee and ฿700 cart fee and a round costs ฿2,400 all-in, per the LENGOLF course guide accessed August 2026. Budget a further ฿400 to ฿600 in cash for the customary caddie tip, handed directly to your caddie after the round. That total of roughly ฿2,800 to ฿3,000 is still around ฿1,000 less than an all-in round at Chiang Mai Highlands or Alpine in green season. Rates change each season, so confirm at booking.
How far is Chiangmai Inthanon from Chiang Mai city?
About 40 km south of the city in the Chom Thong area, reached via Highway 108. The drive takes roughly 40 minutes by private car. It is one of the further courses from town, similar in commitment to the Gassan courses in Lamphun. Getting there by Grab is usually fine in the morning, but finding a return Grab from a rural course after your round is unreliable. A pre-booked private round trip runs about ฿1,400 to ฿2,500 depending on vehicle, or is included when you book the round through a package operator.
Is Chiangmai Inthanon in good condition?
This is the honest caveat. Recent visitor reviews describe weeds encroaching on greens and fairways, leaf litter, and bunkers with little sand. Conditioning is best in the cool season from November to February and weakest late in the dry season. The greens generally putt acceptably, but do not expect the standard of Chiang Mai Highlands. At ฿2,400 all-in the price reflects this. We brief every guest on current conditions before adding the course to an itinerary, and we move the round elsewhere when reports are poor. Ask for a current condition report at booking.
What tees should I play at Chiangmai Inthanon?
There are five tee decks: black at 7,268 yards, blue at 6,898, white at 6,548, yellow at 6,098 and red at 5,658, per the course's published card accessed August 2026. The black tees made it the longest course in the Chiang Mai region when it opened in 2009, and they are a genuine test even for single-figure players. Most visiting golfers enjoy the round far more from the whites at 6,548 yards. The ground is gently rolling rather than mountainous, so the ride in the cart is easy and pace is rarely a problem.
Can you stay at the resort itself?
Yes. Chiangmai Inthanon is a golf and natural resort with on-site accommodation, a restaurant, a spa and massage operation, a driving range and a practice green. A stay-and-play night works if you want a dawn tee time under Doi Inthanon or plan to visit the national park the next day. Be aware the location is rural: evening dining options outside the resort are limited, and most of our guests prefer to day-trip from a Chiang Mai city hotel with a private transfer rather than overnight there.
Does CMGT Golf include Chiangmai Inthanon in its packages?
We add it on request, usually as the third or fourth round of a trip alongside premium venues like Alpine and Chiang Mai Highlands. It suits golfers who want a long, quiet, scenic round at a low fee and accept mixed conditioning. Our packages fold in the private round-trip transfer, tee time, green fee, caddie and cart, which matters at a remote course like this one. CMGT Golf is enquiry-driven: tell us your dates on the golf hub page and we send a quote, then confirm with a deposit.
