Lanna Golf Club is the cheapest full round: LENGOLF lists ฿1,350 weekday and weekend with the caddie included and the cart optional at around ฿400 (accessed 2026-08-21). Lanna is flat, about 10 minutes from the Old City, and one of the few courses in Thailand where walking is permitted. Gassan Panorama is a premium round rather than a budget one: the course public rate for high season 2026-27 is ฿4,410 all-in in the morning (฿3,360 green fee, ฿300 caddie fee and ฿750 cart) and ฿3,780 after 12:00. For that you get one of the longest layouts in northern Thailand with a par 6 on the card, which most golfers here have never played before.

The Lanna, Inthanon and North Hill figures below are green-season numbers; the contract courses are course public rates for high season 2026-27 and are lower in green season. Rates move with the season, with the day of the week and with who is quoting, so use these as a planning baseline and confirm the exact total before you commit.

Is Gassan Panorama good value?

A ฿3,360 morning green fee (฿2,730 after 12:00) buys one of Thailand's longest championship courses. It is a premium round, not a budget one.

Panorama opened in the mid-2000s and reopened after a refurbishment, and it plays through rolling ground in the Lamphun valley with wide corridors and long carries. Off the back tees it is genuinely big, so most visitors move up a set and enjoy it far more. Conditioning is the honest weak spot: it swings with the season, and a course this large is expensive to keep sharp. In the wet months the fairways run lush and slow off the tee, the greens hold everything, and casual water is normal after an afternoon storm. Sister course Gassan Legacy is ฿4,620 all-in in the morning, ฿4,200 after 12:00 and ฿3,780 after 16:00 under floodlights (course public rates, high season 2026-27). Is North Hill worth more than the Gassan courses?

Usually yes. North Hill holds private-club conditioning at a public rate and sits about 15 minutes from the airport, which saves an hour of transfers.

North Hill City Golf Club has been a full 18 since the mid-2010s, and Golfasian lists it at 6,789 yards, par 72, 15 minutes from Chiang Mai airport, with the cart at ฿600 and a rental set at ฿1,000 (accessed 2026-08-21). The club does not publish a full public green-fee card. Agent quotes we see cluster near ฿1,750 in green season and near ฿2,900 in high season, so treat both as estimates and confirm the number at booking.

The value case is not the green fee alone. It is the transfer. A Gassan round costs 30 to 45 minutes each way to Lamphun, plus ฿1,400 to ฿2,500 for a pre-booked private return. North Hill removes most of that, which is why it is the round we most often put on an arrival or departure day: land at CNX in the morning, play in the afternoon, check in to the hotel that evening with a round already banked. Tee sheets here fill faster than the price suggests, so book one to two days ahead in green season and earlier in high season.

How cheap is Lanna Golf Club really?

About ฿1,350 with the caddie, or roughly ฿1,750 with a cart. It is the only cheap round where you can walk and save the cart fee outright.

Lanna dates to the 1970s and is run by the Royal Thai Army inside the Lanna Sports Center on Chotana Road. Twenty-seven holes, par 72, flat ground under mature trees, roughly 10 minutes from the moat. That location is the whole argument: no van, no 6am pickup, a Grab from an Old City hotel and you are on the first tee. Published cart fees conflict between ฿400 and ฿600 depending on the source, and whether the caddie is bundled into the ฿1,350 varies by who is quoting, so confirm both at the counter before you pay.

What you give up is atmosphere. There is no resort clubhouse, no spa, and the practice facility is basic. Pace of play can drag on weekend mornings when local members are out in force. What you get is 18 holes for less than the taxi fare to most of the resort courses, which makes Lanna the right answer for a half-day gap in a sightseeing itinerary rather than the headline round of a golf trip.

What does Chiangmai Inthanon cost once caddie and cart are added?

A ฿1,400 green fee weekday and weekend, plus ฿300 caddie and ฿700 cart, so about ฿2,400. Some agents quote ฿1,400 as an all-in number.

The gap matters, so ask which version you are being sold. LENGOLF's course page (accessed 2026-08-21) describes a bundled all-in figure at that level, while the course's own green fee sits at ฿1,400 before extras (CMGT Golf, 2026). Chiangmai Inthanon opened in the late 2000s and sits about 40 minutes south of the city on the road toward Doi Inthanon, with mountain backdrops that photograph well on a clear cool-season morning. Reviews in the last two seasons have flagged a decline in conditioning, mostly in the greens and bunkers. Priced as a ฿1,400 round it is fair value. Priced at ฿2,400 you are into North Hill territory with a longer drive and worse turf.

Which Gassan course should you skip?

Gassan Khuntan. At around ฿5,250 all-in (course public rate, high season 2026-27) it is the most expensive Gassan, the weakest-conditioned, and it is the longest transfer at 45 minutes or more.

Gassan Khuntan has the most dramatic mountain scenery of the three, and on a clear cool-season morning that is worth something. But you are paying more than Panorama for worse turf and a longer drive, and the extra half hour each way eats the afternoon you were going to spend in the Old City. When is paying more actually worth it?

When conditioning decides your round. Chiangmai Highlands at around ฿4,500 all-in is the best-kept course in the region by a clear margin.

Highlands is a Lee Schmidt design, 27 holes, paspalum turf that stands up to the wet season better than anything else here, heavy bunkering, and the best spa attached to any course in the province. Alpine Golf Resort at roughly ฿6,500 all-in gives you a Ron Garl layout that has hosted professional tournament golf, with the sharpest greens complexes in the region.

The honest framing: the gap between a ฿1,350 Lanna round and a ฿4,500 Highlands round is real money, but if you have flown from Europe or Australia for four rounds, saving ฿3,150 on the round you will remember longest is a poor trade. Does transport wreck the budget-course math?

Often, yes. A pre-booked private return runs ฿1,400 to ฿2,500 per round, which can exceed the whole round at Lanna.

Courses ring the valley, generally 30 to 45 minutes out from the Old City and Nimman. Grab works for a city hotel to Lanna or North Hill, but it is unreliable for a 6:30am pickup, unreliable for a return from a remote clubhouse where no drivers are circulating, and many cars will not take a full tour bag without a fight. Add ฿1,700 of transport to a ฿2,400 Inthanon round and the total is ฿4,100, within ฿400 of a ฿4,500 Highlands round.

Ask four questions every time. Does the quoted price include the caddie fee? Does it include the cart, and is the cart one player or two? Is there a weekend or public holiday surcharge? Is there a rental set available, and at what price? Rental clubs run around ฿1,000 at most clubs, shoes are usually available, and a sleeve of balls at the pro shop costs more than in town.

Bring cash. Some clubhouses take cards for the green fee but almost none take cards for the caddie tip, and a few of the cheaper clubs are cash only throughout.
