Gassan Khuntan Golf & Resort sits in Mae Tha district, Lamphun, hard against the forested slopes of Doi Khuntan National Park. Early tee times regularly play through mist hanging on the ridgelines, and the mountain frames shots on most of the 27 holes. The trade-off is time. From the Old City you are looking at 45 minutes to an hour each way, the longest regular transfer we run. That makes Khuntan a committed day out, not a squeeze-in round.

The gap between agent all-in and rack-plus-extras is real, so confirm the exact number at booking.
Your caddie tip is separate and expected: ฿300 minimum, and ฿400 to ฿600 is the normal range for a good 18 holes, handed over in cash at the bag drop.
How do the three nines play?
Three loops, three characters: White Bridge and River are water-heavy valley golf, Mountain climbs into the terrain. The championship 18 plays par 72 at roughly 7,062 yards.
The club's official site (accessed 2026-08-19) lists Course A, The White Bridge, at par 36; Course B, The River, at par 36; and Course C, The Mountain, at par 35. Water is the recurring theme. Expect carries over ponds, doglegs bending around lakes, and fairways pinched by ditches on the two valley nines, then more elevation and tree definition on the Mountain loop.
The variety is the point. With 27 holes and light weekday traffic, a 27-hole day is realistic here in a way it is not at the busier Chiang Mai courses, and repeat guests rotate the pairings so the second visit feels new.
Who actually designed it?
Nobody can say with confidence, and we refuse to invent a pedigree. Listings conflict between Pravit Reang-Po (2004) and a Schmidt-Curley involvement around 2014.
Course databases credit Thai architect Pravit Reang-Po with a 2004 design. Other listings attribute the course, or a renovation, to Schmidt-Curley in 2014, which is plausible because that firm verifiably renovated Gassan Legacy the same year. The club's own materials name no architect at all. Until someone produces a definitive record, treat the design credit as a range, not a fact. It changes nothing about how the course plays.
How does Khuntan compare with the other Gassans?
Khuntan wins on scenery and hole count, loses on distance and turf. Legacy is the convenient floodlit one, Panorama the monster-length one.

What is the conditioning honestly like?
Fair, not fine. Khuntan is the weakest-conditioned of the three Gassan courses, with patchy lies and slow greens more likely outside peak months.
This is the honest downside, and it is why we position Khuntan as a scenery round rather than a surfaces round. Fairway coverage thins in the hot months, bunker sand is inconsistent, and green speeds vary loop to loop. It is still perfectly playable golf, and reviewers on Where2Golf (accessed 2026-08-19) rate the setting and layout well. But if pristine turf is the trip's priority, spend your premium round at Chiang Mai Highlands and slot Khuntan as the value-and-views day. When should you play it?
November to February for clear mountain air and cool mornings. June to October for value and green hills, with morning tee times to dodge afternoon storms.
Cool-season mornings at the foot of Doi Khuntan can start at 15 to 22C with the mountain sharp against a blue sky. That is peak Khuntan, and peak pricing to match. Green season (April to October) drops the all-in to the ฿2,100 range, the hills turn deep green, and mornings are usually dry even when afternoon storms build, heaviest in September and October. The window to avoid is late February through early April, when smoke haze erases the one thing this course does better than everyone else.
How do you get there, and should you stay on site?
Pre-book a private round-trip transfer. The resort's on-site rooms suit a one-night stopover, but most guests day-trip from Chiang Mai.
The address is 222 Moo 3, Thapladuk, Mae Tha, Lamphun. Grab out to Mae Tha for a 7am tee time is a gamble, and the return pickup from a rural clubhouse is a bigger one, so a pre-booked private car, roughly ฿1,400 to ฿2,500 round trip for Chiang Mai area courses (CMGT Golf, 2026), is the standard move. The resort itself has rooms, a pool, a gym, Thai massage, and a clubhouse restaurant, and it works well for a sleep-and-tee-off night if you are pairing Khuntan with another Lamphun round the next morning.
