Expect to add roughly ฿1,300-1,800 per player to every Chiang Mai green fee: a ฿300-400 caddie fee, a ฿600-800 cart fee, and a ฿400-600 cash tip. In the 2026 green season that puts a full round at about ฿2,400-4,300 per player, depending on the course. The caddie and the tip are not optional. Whether you take a cart depends on the course.
What do I pay on top of the green fee in Chiang Mai?
Three charges sit on top of every green fee: a mandatory caddie fee, a cart fee at most resort courses, and a cash tip for your caddie.
Golfers new to Thailand often budget for the green fee alone. Then the front desk bill comes in 40-60% higher than they expected. The green fee covers the course. The caddie fee pays the course for assigning you a caddie. The cart fee covers the buggy. The tip is a separate payment that goes straight to your caddie.
At Chiang Mai Highlands in the April-October 2026 green season, the ฿2,250 green fee becomes ฿3,400 once you add the ฿400 caddie fee and ฿750 cart fee. Add a ฿500 tip and you are at ฿3,900 before a single drink (CMGT Golf, 2026).

How much is the caddie fee at each Chiang Mai course?
Chiang Mai caddie fees cluster at ฿300-400 per player for 18 holes, paid to the course and billed together with your green fee.
| Course | Green fee | Caddie fee | Cart fee | All-in (before tip) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chiang Mai Highlands | ฿2,250 | ฿400 | ฿750 | ฿3,400 |
| Alpine Golf Resort | ฿2,500 | ฿400 | ฿700-800 | about ฿3,700 |
| Gassan Panorama | ฿900 | ฿300 | ฿600-750 | about ฿1,950 |
| Chiangmai Inthanon | ฿1,400 | ฿300 | ฿700 | about ฿2,400 |
| Gassan Legacy (day) | bundled | bundled | bundled | ฿1,950 |
| Gassan Khuntan | bundled | bundled | bundled | ฿2,100 |
| Lanna Golf Club | about ฿1,350 | confirm at booking | ฿400-600 or walk | varies |
Two things stand out. First, the caddie fee barely moves between the premium and budget courses, so it weighs heavier on a cheap round. At Gassan Panorama the ฿300 caddie fee is a third of the green fee. Second, the cart fee often costs more than the caddie, and at budget courses it can come close to the green fee itself.
The course character matters too. Highlands and Alpine are big, hilly resort layouts where the cart earns its keep between greens and tees. The Gassan courses sit lower in the Lamphun and Mae On area and play more open. For layout and conditioning notes on each, see Chiang Mai Highlands, Alpine Golf Resort, Gassan Panorama, Chiangmai Inthanon, Gassan Legacy, Gassan Khuntan and Lanna Golf Club.
Can I skip the caddie to save money?
No. Every Chiang Mai course assigns one caddie per golfer, and you cannot opt out, even if you want to carry your own bag.
This is standard practice across Thailand, not a Chiang Mai quirk. Caddies here are mostly women, and they work harder than most Western golfers expect. Your caddie drives the cart, reads greens, rakes bunkers, cleans clubs and keeps score. On a hilly course like Highlands, a good caddie can save you shots simply by giving you the right line off the tee and on the greens.
Golfers in Thailand mostly prefer it that way. A 2020 survey by the Asian Golf Industry Federation (accessed 2026-10-18) found golfers in Thailand ranked caddies above carts, and 54% tipped ฿300-500 per round. Tip levels have risen since. For the etiquette side of the relationship, read our Chiang Mai caddie culture and tipping guide.
How much should I tip my caddie?
Tip ฿400-600 in cash per 18 holes for a standard round, and ฿700-1,000 when your caddie was excellent or the course is premium.
Operators in northern Thailand treat ฿400 as the expected minimum. Olsen Tours' golf information page (accessed 2026-10-18) states a ฿400 tip per caddie is expected at courses in the north. The booking listing for Chiang Mai Highlands on Trazy (accessed 2026-10-18) gives the same ฿400 minimum.
Our own guidance is ฿500 as the default for a good round, more for a caddie who read every putt well or held an umbrella through a downpour (CMGT Golf, 2026). Nine holes is roughly half. Cutting the tip to make a point after a bad round is not the custom here. If service was poor, ฿400 still goes, and you can mention the problem to the front desk instead.
How and when do I pay each fee?
Pay the green, caddie and cart fees together at the front desk. Hand the tip to your caddie in cash after the round.
The usual sequence on the morning of a round:
- Check in at the front desk. Bring your passport, as some courses ask for it at check-in.
- Pay the course bill. Green fee, caddie fee and cart fee as one charge. Resort courses generally take cards. Smaller courses may prefer cash.
- Meet your caddie at the bag drop. Your caddie loads your bag and takes you to the first tee.
- Tip at the end. Back at the bag drop, hand over the cash directly and say "khob khun kha" (thank you).
Carry ฿1,000-1,500 in cash per player per round. That covers the tip, a cold drink at the halfway hut and any small course that will not take a card. Do not count on finding an ATM at the clubhouse, so withdraw in the city the night before.
Do I have to take a golf cart?
At most resort courses the round is priced for a cart, at ฿700-800 per cart. Lanna Golf Club near the Old City still lets you walk.
Carts in Chiang Mai are usually priced per cart, though some courses bill per player. That matters. If the fee is per cart and you share with a partner, each of you pays half. If you are a single, you carry the full charge. Always ask which applies.
Walking is cheaper but rare. Lanna Golf Club, a short drive from the Old City, is the main course that still permits it, and its cart fee is reported at anywhere from ฿400 to ฿600 depending on the source. Confirm at booking. Walking in the April-May heat is a real test, so read our heat guide for Chiang Mai golf before you try it.
What does a full round really cost per player?
Budget about ฿2,450-2,600 at the Gassan courses and ฿3,900-4,300 at Highlands or Alpine, including a ฿500 tip, in the 2026 green season.
Here is the real all-in with the tip added. Gassan Legacy runs ฿1,950 plus ฿500, so ฿2,450. Gassan Panorama lands at about the same. Gassan Khuntan is ฿2,100 plus ฿500, so ฿2,600. Chiang Mai Highlands is ฿3,400 plus ฿500, so ฿3,900. Alpine is about ฿3,700 plus ฿500, so about ฿4,200 (CMGT Golf, 2026).
Then add the ride. Most courses sit roughly 30-45 minutes from the city, and a pre-booked private round trip typically runs about ฿1,400-2,500. Split between four players, that adds ฿350-625 each. Solo, the transfer alone can push a cheap Gassan round close to ฿4,000.
Are fees higher in high season?
Yes. From November to March, green fees and some cart fees rise, while caddie fees and tip norms stay roughly the same.
The cleanest 2026 numbers we have are the April-October green-season rates above. High-season rates for November-March change often and are not always published clearly, so we do not quote them as hard fact here. Expect the premium courses, including Summit Green Valley, to sit well above their green-season prices, and ask us for current figures when you enquire.
The honest downside of the dry season: the cool, clear months that make Chiang Mai golf great also bring the highest bills and the hardest tee times to secure. And the later part of the dry season overlaps with burning season, when smoke can affect air quality. Read the best time for golf in Chiang Mai before you lock in dates.
Does a golf package cover caddie and cart fees?
Most packages fold the green, caddie and cart fees into one price. The caddie tip stays separate, in cash, on the day.
A typical CMGT Golf package covers green fees, caddie fees and carts, plus hotel, private driver, airport transfers and on-the-ground support. The tip is always yours to pay, because it is a personal payment to the caddie.
Packages pay off when you play three or more rounds and want transfers handled. The Northern Value 4-night, 3-round package and the Weekend Warrior 3-night package are the common starting points. Where packages do not pay off: a single round at a Gassan course, booked direct, with a Grab ride from the city. That is often cheaper on its own. Our booking direct vs agent comparison runs the numbers both ways.
We are enquiry-driven. Send us your dates and group size and we reply with a quote that lists every fee covered, so nothing surprises you at the front desk.

How much is the caddie fee at Chiang Mai golf courses?
Most Chiang Mai courses charge a caddie fee of ฿300-400 per player for 18 holes. You pay it to the course at the front desk along with your green fee. In our 2026 green-season rates, Chiang Mai Highlands and Alpine charge ฿400, while Gassan Panorama and Chiangmai Inthanon charge ฿300. The fee is mandatory because every Thai course assigns one caddie per golfer. It does not include the tip. The tip is a separate cash payment you hand to your caddie after the round, usually ฿400-600 for 18 holes (CMGT Golf, 2026).
How much should I tip my caddie in Chiang Mai?
Plan on ฿400-600 per 18 holes for a standard round, and ฿700-1,000 if your caddie was excellent or you played a premium course. Northern Thailand operators treat ฿400 as the expected floor, and some booking platforms list a ฿400 minimum for Highlands. Hand it over in cash, directly to your caddie, at the bag drop once the round ends. Do not add it to your card bill at the pro shop. Carry small notes, since ฿100 and ฿500 bills make it easy to tip the exact amount you intend.
Is a golf cart mandatory in Chiang Mai?
At most of the resort courses, yes in practice. Highlands, Alpine and the Gassan courses price the round on the assumption you take a cart, and carts typically run ฿700-800 per cart in the 2026 green season. Your caddie drives it. Lanna Golf Club near the Old City is the main exception: walking is permitted, which makes it one of the cheapest full rounds in the valley. If walking matters to you, confirm the course policy at booking because cart rules can change by season and by day of the week.
Do I pay caddie and cart fees by card or cash?
Green fee, caddie fee and cart fee are usually settled together at the front desk or pro shop, and most of the established resort courses accept major cards for that bill. Smaller local courses may prefer cash. The caddie tip is always cash, handed directly to your caddie after the round. We advise guests to carry ฿1,000-1,500 in cash per round to cover the tip, a drink at the halfway hut and anything a smaller course will not take on card. Confirm card acceptance at booking if you plan to rely on it.
Does a golf package include caddie and cart fees?
Most Chiang Mai golf packages, ours included, fold the green fee, caddie fee and cart fee into one price, along with hotel, private transfers and tee-time booking. The caddie tip is almost never included, because it is a personal payment to the caddie. So budget ฿400-600 per round in cash on top of any package. When you enquire with CMGT Golf we list exactly which fees are covered in the quote, so there are no surprises at the front desk on the morning of the round.
