When is the best time for a Chiang Mai golf trip?
November to February is the peak: cool 15-22C mornings on the highland courses, dry, clear, and no rain. It is also the dearest and most booked-up window.
Cool-dry season runs November to February and is the reason golfers fly in. Highland courses like Chiangmai Highlands sit at 15-22C early, with highs of 28-32C and January the coolest month. The trade-off is crowds and full-rate pricing. April to October is the green season: humid, with short afternoon storms that are heaviest in September and October, but the cheapest rates and easiest last-minute tee times. How much does a round of golf cost in Chiang Mai?
Green-season all-in rates run about ฿1,750 at North Hill to ฿3,700 at Alpine, each covering green fee, caddie fee and cart. High-season rack rates sit higher.
The cleanest figures available are the April to October 2026 green-season agent all-in rates. Most high-season rack green fees are image-only or soft, so we confirm those live at booking rather than publish a hard number. The honest downside of green season is the weather, not the price: you are trading afternoon rain for a 30-50% saving.

How do caddies and tipping work?
Caddies are mandatory, one per golfer, and you cannot opt out. The fee to the course is ฿300-400, and the tip on top is ฿400-600 per round.
Every Thai course assigns a caddie, predominantly female, who drives the cart, reads greens, cleans your clubs and keeps score. The caddie fee is paid to the course: Chiangmai Highlands lists ฿400 per round, compulsory and paid in cash (Chiangmai Highlands, accessed 2026-09-06). The tip is separate and expected: ฿400-600 per 18, up to ฿700-1,000 for a premium course or a standout caddie. Hand it directly to your caddie in cash at the bag drop, not through the pro shop. Do I need to book tee times in advance?
In November to February peak season, yes: 3-4 weeks out for weekend slots at Alpine and Highlands. Green-season and weekday tee times are far easier, often 1-7 days ahead.
Peak-season weekend tee times at the top courses sell out. Book them 3-4 weeks out, or 6 weeks for a four-ball wanting a continuous block. Weekday slots usually open up 5-7 days ahead. In April to October most courses take a booking 1-2 days out, and North Hill in particular rewards a short lead time. The honest catch with direct booking is coordination: chasing four pro shops for one group is where trips fall apart, which is where an operator holding tee-time blocks earns its keep.
What is the dress code, and do I need a handicap?
Collared shirt, tailored shorts or trousers, soft spikes. No denim, sport shorts, sandals or non-collared shirts. No official handicap is generally required.
Courses enforce the dress code at the pro shop, so pack a collar. No handicap certificate is usually needed, but you should be course-ready and keep pace, and singles or pairs may be grouped at busy times. Our golf dress code guide has the specifics per course.
Can I rent clubs or should I bring my own?
Rental is available at every major course for roughly ฿1,000-1,500 a set. Club sharing is not allowed, so each player needs their own bag.
Rental quality varies by course and the exact price is not fixed, so confirm at booking. For a trip of four rounds or more, the baggage fee to fly your own clubs is often close to the total rental cost. Many guests bring their own irons and putter and rent driver and woods locally, saving bag weight without giving up feel on the scoring clubs.
How do I get from Chiang Mai to the courses?
Courses ring the valley, generally 30-45 minutes out. North Hill and Lanna are closest, the Gassan and Khuntan courses furthest. A pre-booked private round-trip runs about ฿1,400-2,500.
Chiang Mai airport (CNX) is about 4km from the Old City, a 10-15 minute ride for ฿150-200 by taxi or Grab. From your hotel, North Hill near the airport and Lanna Golf Club near the Old City are the shortest hops. Grab works for city trips but is risky for early tee times, remote pickups and full golf bags. A pre-booked private round-trip to a course is around ฿1,400-2,500, and package operators fold private transfers into the price so you are not negotiating a driver at 6am.
Is a golf package cheaper than booking each round?
For three or more rounds, usually yes, because an operator negotiates green-fee discounts and shares transport across the group. For a single round, direct booking can match or beat it.
