Golf and Spa Holidays in Chiang Mai: Rounds Plus Recovery

Planning a golf and spa holiday in Chiang Mai? Which courses pair rounds with a spa, honest green fees, massage costs, and when the air is clear enough to play.

By The Chiang Mai Go Tours team15 Sept 20268 min read

A golf and spa holiday in Chiang Mai works best November to February, playing highland courses like Chiangmai Highlands (about ฿3,400 all-in in green season) in the cool morning, then recovering at an on-site spa or an Old City shop where a one-hour Thai massage runs ฿300 to ฿600. The two halves of the trip fit together because the golf finishes by early afternoon and the spa culture is cheap, everywhere, and excellent.

Here is how to pick the courses, price the treatments, time the trip around the air, and decide whether a package pays off.

Why does Chiang Mai suit a golf and spa break?

Rounds finish by 1pm, courses ring a valley full of resort spas, and off-course massage is among the cheapest in Asia, so recovery is built into every day.

Chiang Mai has more than a dozen courses within a 45-minute drive of the city, most of them tee-off-at-dawn operations that leave the whole afternoon open. That rhythm is what makes the golf-and-spa pairing honest rather than a marketing bolt-on. You play in the cool part of the day, eat at the clubhouse, then choose between a resort spa on site or the hundreds of massage shops back in town. A one-hour traditional Thai massage costs about ฿300 to ฿600 at a standard shop, per 2026 Thailand massage price guides (accessed 2026-09-15). That is less than a single caddie tip.

The trade-off: not every course has a spa worth the name, so where you play matters if the on-site treatment is the point. See our full Chiang Mai spa guide for the town options.

Which courses have the best on-site spa?

Chiangmai Highlands leads on both course and spa. Alpine is the resort alternative. Summit Green Valley adds floodlit night golf and a spa for a play-late, unwind-after day.

Chiangmai Highlands Golf and Spa Resort is a 27-hole Schmidt-Curley design on paspalum turf, the best-conditioned course in the region, with the strongest wellness facility of the golf resorts. You finish the round and move to the spa without a transfer. Our Highlands course review covers the layout in detail.

Alpine Golf Resort is the other resort with a real spa and pool, a 27-hole Ron Garl course that has hosted professional tournaments. Summit Green Valley is the region's priciest and offers floodlit night golf plus a spa, useful if you want to play in the cool of the evening. One caveat on Summit: it draws recurring complaints about greens condition, so it is a value-and-novelty pick rather than a pure quality one.

What does a round actually cost, all-in?

Budget about ฿3,400 to ฿3,700 all-in per round in green season at the top resorts, made up of the green fee plus a mandatory ฿400 caddie fee and a ฿750 cart fee.

Green fees are only part of the number. Every Thai course adds a compulsory caddie and a cart. At Highlands, the published rate card (accessed 2026-09-15) lists a ฿400 caddie fee and a ฿750 cart fee on top of the green fee, both payable in cash. Green-season 2026 all-in there works out to about ฿3,400. High-season rack rates run higher and many are image-only or soft, so confirm the exact figure when you book rather than trusting a screenshot.

The caddie fee is separate from the tip. Plan ฿400 to ฿600 in cash per round handed directly to your caddie after the 18th, more for a premium course. Full detail in our caddie culture and tipping guide.

How much does the spa side add?

Off-course, very little: ฿300 to ฿600 an hour for Thai massage in town. On-course resort spas price closer to ฿1,000 to ฿2,500 for a signature treatment.

The spa half of the trip is where Chiang Mai is genuinely cheap. Local walk-in shops charge ฿200 to ฿500 per hour, mid-range spas ฿500 to ฿1,500, and luxury hotel spas ฿2,000 to ฿4,000, per 2026 price guides. Aromatherapy oil work costs more than dry Thai massage, roughly ฿600 to ฿1,200. Resort spas at the golf courses sit in the mid-to-upper band and charge for the convenience of no transfer. If budget matters more than proximity, finish your round, head back to town, and pay Old City prices.

When should we come for clear air and cool mornings?

November through February. Cool, dry, clear, and the mountain views the highland courses are known for. Avoid roughly mid-January to mid-April, the burning season.

The cool-dry window gives you 15 to 22C early on the highland courses, low humidity, and clean air. It is also the peak, so book weekend tee times three to four weeks ahead. The honest downside of Chiang Mai golf is the air. From about mid-January to mid-April, agricultural and forest burning fills the valley basin with smoke. Chiang Mai ranked among the world's most polluted cities repeatedly in March 2026 (accessed 2026-09-15), hitting AQI 263 on 29 March. No spa fixes that.

How do we structure a golf-and-spa day?

Dawn pickup, tee off around 7 to 8am, finish and eat by 1pm, spa in the early afternoon, dinner in town. Golf uses the cool hours, spa uses the heat of the day.

A workable rhythm:

  • 6:30 to 7:00: Pickup from your hotel.
  • 7:30 to 8:00: Tee off in the cool morning.
  • 13:00: Finish, lunch at the clubhouse.
  • 14:30: Spa, on site or back in the Old City.
  • 18:30: Dinner in town.

Alternate golf days with pure spa or sightseeing days if you are travelling as a couple or your back cannot take back-to-back rounds. A rest day between rounds is where the spa culture earns its place in the itinerary. Browse the full course list on our golf courses directory to build the rotation.

How do we book a golf and spa trip in Chiang Mai?

Send your dates, group size and the rounds-to-spa mix you want, and we confirm courses, tee times and spa slots with a deposit. CMGT Golf is enquiry-driven, so there is no instant book.

The booking flow is short. First, tell us the trip through our golf enquiry page: travel dates, how many players, how many rounds, and whether you want on-course spa time or town treatments. We then check tee-time availability at your chosen courses, because cool-season weekends at Highlands and Alpine book out fastest, and confirm the transfer plan from your hotel. Next we send an itemised quote covering green, caddie and cart fees, hotel, private transfers and spa time. You hold the dates with a deposit and settle the balance on arrival. For cool-season travel, start this three to four weeks ahead so the tee times you want are still open. Transfers from the city to the highland courses run roughly 45 to 50 minutes each way, which we build into the daily schedule so a post-round spa slot is not lost to traffic.

Is a package cheaper than booking rounds and spa separately?

For three or more rounds with hotel, transfers and spa time bundled, usually yes. For a single round and one massage, booking direct can be cheaper.

A package folds green fees, caddie and cart fees, hotel, private airport and course transfers, tee-time blocks, and on-the-ground support into one price. The savings come from negotiated green-fee discounts and shared transport, plus a single contact if weather forces a schedule change. Where a package does not pay off: one round, direct-booked, with a town massage afterward can come out cheaper than a bundled day, because you are not paying for transfer coordination you do not need.

CMGT Golf is enquiry-driven. We do not instant-book and we do not publish a fixed package price here, because the right number depends on your rounds, hotel and spa mix. Tell us the trip through our golf enquiry page and we send a quote. A spa-heavy build like Culture and Golf, 5 nights or the course-focused Highlands Classic, 5 nights are good starting points. For the wider course-by-course math, see our Chiang Mai golf packages guide.

Frequently asked questions

Which Chiang Mai golf course is best for a golf and spa break?

Chiangmai Highlands Golf and Spa Resort. It runs the best-conditioned course in the region on paspalum turf and the strongest on-site spa, so you can finish 18 holes and move straight to a herbal steam or massage without a transfer. Green-season all-in is about ฿3,400 (฿2,250 green fee, ฿400 caddie, ฿750 cart), verified against the resort rate card for 2026. Alpine Golf Resort is the alternative, with a resort spa and pool. If you want treatments off-course instead, Chiang Mai's Old City has hundreds of massage shops within 10 minutes of most hotels.

How much does a Thai massage cost in Chiang Mai?

A one-hour traditional Thai massage runs about ฿300 to ฿600 at a standard shop in Chiang Mai, based on 2026 price guides. Local walk-in shops sit at the ฿200 to ฿500 mark per hour, mid-range spas ฿500 to ฿1,500, and luxury hotel spas ฿2,000 to ฿4,000. Aromatherapy oil massage costs more, roughly ฿600 to ฿1,200. On-course spas at the golf resorts price closer to the mid-range and hotel bands. Booking a package of treatments usually beats paying per session. Prices change, so confirm at the door.

Can a non-golfing partner spend the day at the spa while I play?

Yes, and it is one reason a golf and spa holiday works well as a couple. Highlands and Alpine both keep a spa, pool and clubhouse restaurant on site, so a partner can settle in for treatments and lunch while you finish your round, then you both leave together. If your partner prefers town, most golf mornings finish by 1pm, which leaves the afternoon free for an Old City spa. We fold both options into a quote when you enquire through /golf.

When is the air clear enough for a golf and spa holiday in Chiang Mai?

November to February. Cool, dry mornings sit at 15 to 22C on the highland courses, humidity is low, and the mountain views are clear. Avoid roughly mid-January to mid-April, the burning season, when agricultural smoke pushes air quality to unhealthy levels. Chiang Mai topped IQAir's global pollution ranking several times in March 2026, hitting AQI 263 on 29 March. A spa day indoors is a poor substitute for a golf holiday you cannot breathe through, so plan the trip for the cool season and check IQAir daily.

Is a golf and spa package cheaper than booking rounds and treatments separately?

It depends on the trip length. For three or more rounds with hotel, private transfers and spa time built in, a package usually wins on both price and hassle: operators negotiate green-fee discounts and share transport across the group. For a single round plus one massage, booking direct can match or beat a package. CMGT Golf is enquiry-driven, so we send a quote and confirm with a deposit rather than instant-booking. Ask through /golf and we price the exact mix of rounds and spa you want.
