Chiang Mai Golf Daily Budget: What a Day Really Costs

A green-season golf day in Chiang Mai costs about ฿3,700 to ฿6,000 per golfer, before your hotel. That covers one all-in round (green fee, caddie, cart), a ฿400 to ฿600 caddie tip, a shared private transfer and three meals. Solo golfers and high-season (November to March) premium rounds push the top end toward ฿7,800 and beyond.

What does one golf day in Chiang Mai cost in total?

Four line items make up the day: the all-in round, the caddie tip, transport, and food. The round is 50 to 60 percent of it.

Here is how a day adds up for one golfer in a foursome during the April to October 2026 green season. Round prices are the green-season all-in agent rates we see across our booking desk (CMGT Golf, 2026). Transport assumes a private car split four ways.

The biggest swing is not the course. It is whether you share the car. A solo golfer on a value course can outspend a foursome on a premium one, because the transfer is a per-vehicle cost that does not shrink when you travel alone.

How much is a round of golf in Chiang Mai right now?

Green-season all-in rounds run from ฿1,950 at the Gassan courses to ฿3,700 at Alpine. High season adds a premium we will not guess at.

The cleanest numbers available are the April to October 2026 agent all-in rates:

• Gassan Legacy Golf Club: ฿1,950 day, ฿1,650 under floodlights, all-in.
• Gassan Panorama Golf Club: ฿1,950 all-in (฿900 green, ฿300 caddie, ฿750 cart).
• Gassan Khuntan Golf & Resort: ฿2,100 all-in.
• Mae Jo Golf Club & Resort: about ฿2,850 all-in, with occasional promos well below that.
• Chiang Mai Highlands Golf & Spa: ฿3,400 all-in (฿2,250 green, ฿400 caddie, ฿750 cart).
• Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai: ฿3,700 all-in (฿2,500 green, ฿400 caddie, ฿800 cart).

How much should I budget for the caddie?

Budget ฿700 to ฿1,000 per round in total: a ฿300 to ฿400 caddie fee to the course, plus a ฿400 to ฿600 cash tip.

Caddies are compulsory at Chiang Mai courses, one per golfer, and you cannot opt out. Most all-in rates already include the caddie fee. The tip is separate and expected. Highlands itself says a good tip "is generally 400 THB upwards" per 18 holes. Fairways of Eden's tipping guide (accessed 2026-09-24) puts ฿500 to ฿600 at the generous end for a caddie who read every green.

A good caddie earns it. They carry or drive with your bag, read the breaks on grainy greens, rake bunkers, spot your ball in the rough and keep you moving on a busy tee sheet. Many speak enough English to give yardages and club advice.

What does transport to the course cost each day?

A private round-trip transfer runs about ฿1,400 to ฿2,500 per car. Split four ways it is minor. Paid alone, it is the budget's weak spot.

Courses ring the Chiang Mai valley, mostly 30 to 45 minutes from town. North Hill Golf Club and Lanna Golf Club are among the closest, and the Gassan courses in Lamphun are further out, with Khuntan the longest drive. The further out, the dearer the car.

Grab looks cheaper, but we do not rely on it for golf. A 6:30am pickup, a remote clubhouse at noon and a full-size golf bag are three ways a ride-hailing booking fails. A missed tee time costs more than the car you saved on. How much do golfers spend on food and drink?

Around ฿1,000 per day covers clubhouse lunch, a street-food dinner and drinks. Heavy beer rounds and hotel restaurants can double it.

Meliá's Chiang Mai budget guide (accessed 2026-09-24) puts comfortable daily eating and drinking at about ฿1,000, with a bowl of khao soi from a stall costing well under ฿100. Clubhouse food costs more than the street, and a round of cold drinks at the turn for you and your caddie adds up across four days.

This is the easiest line to trim. Eat lunch at the club, dinner at a night market, and the day total drops without touching your golf.

What extras catch golfers out?

Club rental, a second round, spa time and floodlit night golf are the four extras that most often push a day past plan.

• Club rental. Sets are widely available, often around ฿1,000 to ฿1,500 a round, but prices and quality vary by course, so confirm at booking. Clubs cannot be shared between players.
• A second 9 or 18. At a 27-hole course like Highlands, an afternoon loop is tempting. Budget another green fee, caddie and tip.
• Spa. Highlands is known for its spa. A post-round treatment is a real cost line, not a freebie.
• Night golf. Gassan Legacy's floodlit rate is ฿300 cheaper than its day rate, which is a genuine saving if you play in the cooler evening.

Does the season change my daily budget?

Yes. Green season (April to October) is the cheapest time to play. High season (November to March) costs more and books out sooner.

The cool, dry months of November to February are peak golf, with the dearest rates and the hardest tee times to secure. Green season brings short afternoon storms, usually heaviest from August to October, but mornings are usually playable and rates drop. Book early tee times in the wet months and you rarely lose a round.

There is a cost you cannot budget away: burning season. Air quality from roughly February to April is often poor, typically worst in March, and some days reach levels that make 18 holes a bad idea. How many days should I budget for?

Most golfers plan three to five rounds over four to seven nights, so budget roughly ฿15,000 to ฿30,000 per golfer for golf days alone, before hotel.

Once the hotel and car go in, a self-built budget often lands close to what a bundled package costs. That is worth knowing before you spend an evening on a spreadsheet.

Is a golf package cheaper than paying day by day?

For one round, no. For three or more rounds with transfers and hotel, a package is often the same or cheaper, and simpler.

Where does the money go further, and where does it not?

The Gassan courses stretch a budget furthest. The weak spot is conditioning and time: Khuntan is the least polished Gassan, and Mae Jo can play slow.

Cheap does not mean equal. Gassan Khuntan has dramatic mountain scenery but the most variable conditioning of the Gassan three and the longest transfer, so its low fee is partly eaten by the car. Mae Jo sits north-east of the city and is good value, but pace of play can drag on busy days. Premium rounds at Highlands and Alpine cost more because the conditioning and facilities are better.
