You can usually get a last-minute golf tee time in Chiang Mai, often for the next morning between April and October. From November to February, give it a few days and stay flexible about the course. Green-season rounds start at about ฿1,650 all-in for night golf at Gassan Legacy. Send us your dates through our Chiang Mai golf desk and we will check which courses still have space.
Most people reading this are already in the country. Maybe a business trip finished early, a partner went home, or the weather turned and you finally have a free morning. Below is how short-notice golf really works here: which courses have space, what it costs, and when a late booking does not make sense.
How late can you book a round of golf in Chiang Mai?
In green season, a day's notice usually works at most courses. In peak season, weekend mornings at the top courses fill first, so plan further ahead.
Two seasons decide almost everything. Green season runs from April to October. It is rainy and lush, prices are lowest, and most courses have open morning sheets on weekdays. Rain tends to come in the afternoon, so an early start usually beats the storms. High season runs from November to February. That is when the weather is cool and dry, Korean, Japanese and European groups arrive in bulk, and the best courses fill weeks out. March sits in between: tee sheets loosen, but the smoke season arrives.
In our experience across the 2026 green season, a request that reached us by mid-afternoon got a next-morning slot at one of the courses on the golfer's shortlist most of the time (CMGT Golf, 2026). In December and January it is a different story. Expect a few days of lead time for weekday rounds at Chiang Mai Highlands or Alpine Golf Resort, and longer for weekends. Lead times change week to week, so treat these as patterns and not guarantees.
Which Chiang Mai courses are easiest to get on at short notice?
The Gassan courses, North Hill and Mae Jo are the most reliable fallbacks. Highlands and Alpine are the hardest to book late in peak season.
For short notice, this is how we rank them:
| Course | Green-season all-in | Short-notice odds | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gassan Legacy | ฿1,950 day / ฿1,650 night | High | Flattest Gassan, less dramatic |
| Gassan Panorama | ฿1,950 | High | Long layout, condition varies by season |
| North Hill | Ask for a quote | Good | Needs a day or two in high season |
| Mae Jo | about ฿2,850, promos lower | Good | Weakest conditioning of the premium set, slow pace |
| Gassan Khuntan | ฿2,100 | Good | Longest transfer, 45 min plus |
| Highlands | ฿3,400 | Fair to low in peak | Most in demand, best conditioned |
| Alpine | ฿3,700 | Fair to low in peak | Long drive, weekend mornings go first |
Gassan Legacy is our first call for a late request because it runs two sessions: day and floodlit night. Gassan Panorama sits next door and plays long from the back tees, so it suits stronger players. North Hill is a short drive from the airport and keeps private-club conditioning, which makes it a good fit for a round on your arrival or departure day. Mae Jo is north of the city, roughly 20 to 30 minutes out depending on traffic, and is usually the easiest of the resort courses to get on at a weekend.
What does a last-minute round cost in October 2026?
There is usually no late-booking surcharge. Expect ฿1,950 to ฿3,700 all-in in green season, plus a ฿400 to ฿600 caddie tip and transport.
Booking late does not cost more in Chiang Mai. The bigger factors are the season and how many people are in your group. Tour operators that price by group size show the effect clearly. For the April to October 2026 low season, Olsen Tours lists Highlands at ฿4,400 to ฿5,700 per person (accessed 3 October 2026) with green fee, caddie and cart included, and the cheapest rate goes to the largest group. Its Gassan Legacy page (accessed 3 October 2026) adds van transport and runs from ฿5,600 per person for two players down to ฿4,200 for five or more.
Here is the honest bit. A solo golfer pays the most per head with almost every operator, us included, because the car and driver cost the same for one person as for four. If you are alone and staying near a course, booking direct can work out cheaper. More on that below.
Does peak season change last-minute availability?
Yes. From November to February the top courses fill well ahead, and a late request may mean taking your second-choice course or an afternoon slot.
Peak season starts in about four weeks. It brings cool, clear mornings on the higher courses, views toward Doi Suthep, and the busiest tee sheets of the year. When we checked on 3 October 2026, Olsen Tours still showed its November 2026 to February 2027 rates as "TBA", which tells you how soft high-season pricing is this early. Confirm the live price at booking.
For a late peak-season booking, three things improve your chances:
- Play on a weekday. Saturday and Sunday mornings go first, mostly to local members and tour groups.
- Accept an afternoon or night slot. An afternoon round is warmer but much easier to get. Floodlit golf at Gassan Legacy adds an evening option, and Summit Green Valley is worth asking about if you want a course close to town.
- Give us two or three acceptable courses instead of one. We can confirm one of three far faster than one specific course.
Our guide to the best tee times for Chiang Mai golf covers the heat and pace trade-offs for each slot.
Can you book a last-minute round direct with the course?
Yes, and for one round it can be cheaper. You give up transport, a fallback course, and English-language support when plans change.
Every course here takes direct bookings by phone, and some reply on LINE. If you have a car, are staying near the course and want only one round, try the pro shop. The trade-offs show up on short notice. Phone lines are often Thai-language only. A "full" answer means starting the search again yourself. And booking an early pickup through Grab is a gamble with a golf bag and a 6am tee time.
An operator is worth it when you want two or more rounds within a few days, when you need a fallback course lined up, or when you want a driver waiting at the car park. We compare both routes in booking golf direct vs through an agent.
How do you get to the course on short notice?
Book a private car with your round. Most courses sit 15 to 45 minutes out, and early Grab pickups with a golf bag are unreliable.
Courses ring the valley. North Hill and Lanna Golf Club are closest to town, with Lanna roughly 10 minutes from the Old City in light traffic. Gassan Khuntan is furthest, at 45 minutes or more into the hills of Lamphun. A pre-booked private round trip runs about ฿1,400 to ฿2,500 depending on distance and waiting time (CMGT Golf, 2026). If you are coming straight off a flight, CNX airport is only a few kilometres from the Old City and a taxi into town is cheap. See our Chiang Mai airport transfer guide for details.
What if every morning slot is full?
Play at night. Gassan Legacy runs floodlit rounds, and Star Dome offers floodlit nine-hole golf on the edge of the city.
Night golf is one of the best last-minute options in Chiang Mai, and few visitors know about it. Gassan Legacy's night rate is about ฿1,650 all-in in green season, cheaper than its day rate. Star Dome is a compact 9-hole course in town, good for a casual evening hit when you do not want a long transfer. Published prices for Star Dome are patchy and some visitors report a foreigner rate, so confirm the cost before you go. Night rounds are also cooler, which matters from March to May when afternoons get very hot.
What should you have ready before you ask for a tee time?
Give us dates, player count, hotel, preferred start time and whether you need clubs. With all five up front, we can usually confirm in one reply.
Most delays on short-notice requests come from back-and-forth messages. Send these in your first message:
- Dates, plus one backup date if you have one
- Number of players (singles and pairs may be grouped with others)
- Hotel or pickup point
- Morning, afternoon or night preference
- Club rental needed or not (sets exist everywhere, prices vary by course)
No handicap certificate is generally required. Pack a collared shirt, tailored shorts or trousers, and soft spikes. Our Chiang Mai golf dress code explains what gets turned away at the desk.
Is a last-minute round worth it in burning season?
Often not in March. Smoke from crop burning can push AQI well past 150 on bad days between roughly February and April.
This is the biggest downside of booking on a whim, and we would rather say it plainly. IQAir has reported (accessed 3 October 2026) that Chiang Mai's PM2.5 levels in the burning season regularly run many times above the WHO guideline, and the city has ranked among the most polluted in the world on some days. On the worst mornings, the hills around the valley disappear into haze.
When does a package beat booking round by round?
Once you want two or more rounds in a few days. A short package bundles tee times, caddies, carts, hotel and driver into one confirmation.
If you are already here with a free weekend, the Layover package (2 nights, 2 rounds) and the Weekend Warrior (3 nights, 3 rounds) are built for short windows. If you have a little more time, the Northern Value package adds a fourth night. Each one covers green fees, caddies, carts, hotel, private driver and on-the-ground support. We are enquiry-driven: you send dates, we quote, you confirm with a deposit, and we cannot promise a slot until the course has confirmed it.
For a single round, a package rarely pays off. Book that one direct, or ask us for the round on its own. For anything bigger, tell us your dates on the Chiang Mai golf packages page and we will tell you what is open.

Can I book a golf tee time in Chiang Mai for tomorrow?
Usually yes from April to October. In green season most courses around Chiang Mai have open morning slots, and in our experience a request sent by mid-afternoon often gets you onto a course the next day. Gassan Legacy, Gassan Panorama, North Hill and Mae Jo are the easiest to get on at short notice. From November to February it is harder. Weekend mornings at Highlands and Alpine fill first, so give yourself a few days and stay flexible on which course you play. Send your dates and group size to our team and we will come back with the options that are actually open.
Which Chiang Mai golf course is easiest to get on last minute?
In our experience the Gassan courses in Lamphun are the most reliable short-notice options. Gassan Legacy runs floodlit night golf, which gives you a second chance if the morning sheet is full, at around ฿1,650 all-in in green season. North Hill, about 15 to 20 minutes from the airport, is good value and usually needs only a day or two of notice. Mae Jo, north of the city, is another fallback, though its conditioning is the weakest of the premium set and pace of play can be slow on busy weekends.
How much does a last-minute round of golf cost in Chiang Mai?
Booking late does not usually add a surcharge. In the April to October 2026 green season, our all-in rates (green fee, caddie and cart) run from about ฿1,950 at Gassan Legacy and Gassan Panorama up to ฿3,400 at Highlands and ฿3,700 at Alpine. On top of that you tip your caddie ฿400 to ฿600 in cash and pay for transport, roughly ฿1,400 to ฿2,500 round trip for a private car. High-season rates for November to February run higher, so confirm the live price at booking.
Is it cheaper to book a last-minute round direct with the course?
For a single round it can be. If you are staying near the course, can arrange your own transport and only want to play once, calling the pro shop may beat an operator price. The trade-off is that you deal with phone lines that are often Thai-language only, you sort the transfer for an early tee time yourself, and nobody re-routes you to another course if your first choice is full. An operator earns its fee when you want two or more rounds in a short window, a private driver, or a fallback course lined up.
Do I need a handicap certificate to play golf in Chiang Mai?
No official handicap certificate is generally required at Chiang Mai courses. What matters is that you can keep pace and know basic etiquette. Singles and pairs may be grouped with other players, which is common when you book late. You do need to follow the dress code: a collared shirt, tailored shorts or trousers, and soft spikes. Denim, sports shorts and sandals are not allowed. Every course rents clubs at varying prices, so confirm the cost when you book. One caddie per golfer is standard at every course.
