There are only a handful of golf simulators in Chiang Mai, and the most practical one for a visiting golfer is The Golf Club CNX in San Sai, at ฿600 an hour per bay in the daytime and ฿800 after 17:00. Pair it with early tee times and an evening round as a second backup, and a rain-hit afternoon costs you a round, not a day.
Where can I find a golf simulator in Chiang Mai?
Three realistic options: The Golf Club CNX in San Sai, the Chiang Mai Marriott's private simulator rooms, and Star Dome's range near the Old City.
Chiang Mai is not Bangkok. The capital has plenty of TrackMan and Golfzon studios. Chiang Mai has a short list, and it changes. Golf Point Center Chiang Mai posted on its Facebook page that it stopped trading in 2025, so treat any older "indoor golf in Chiang Mai" list with suspicion.
Here is what we could verify in October 2026:
- The Golf Club CNX, Nong Chom, San Sai district. Three simulator bays, air-conditioned, with food and drinks. Booking by website, phone and LINE. Closed Mondays.
- The Wang Bar at the Chiang Mai Marriott. Private simulator rooms and karaoke rooms in a golf-themed cocktail bar. Evenings only.
- Star Dome Golf Club, a short drive south-west of the Old City. Mainly a floodlit 9-hole course and a big driving range; GolfLux lists 96 lanes and "a real golf course simulator". That listing is not recent, so ring ahead.
A fourth option is a simulator inside Palm Villa, a private rental villa in San Sai. It is great if your group rents the villa. It is not a walk-in venue.
How do the Chiang Mai simulator options compare?
The Golf Club CNX wins for practice and value; the Marriott wins for a social evening in town; Star Dome wins if you want to hit real balls nearby.
| Venue | Type | Area | Price | Hours | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Golf Club CNX | 3 simulator bays | San Sai, north of the city | ฿600/hr day, ฿800/hr from 17:00, per bay | Tue-Sun from 11:00, closed Mon | Practice, group sessions, wet afternoons |
| The Wang Bar, Chiang Mai Marriott | Private simulator rooms in a bar | City centre, east side | Not published, ask direct | Evenings, check days | After-dinner fun, non-golfers along |
| Star Dome Golf Club | Range plus 9-hole floodlit course | South-west of the Old City | Confirm on arrival | Confirm on arrival | Hitting real balls, night 9 holes |
| Palm Villa | Private villa simulator | San Sai | Bundled with villa stay | Villa guests | Groups renting the villa |
What does a simulator session cost in Chiang Mai?
A daytime bay at The Golf Club CNX costs ฿600 an hour for up to six players, so a four-ball pays roughly ฿150 each.
The Golf Club CNX pricing page (accessed 2026-10-15) lists ฿600 per hour from 11:00 to 17:00 and ฿800 per hour from 17:00 to 21:00. Prepaid packs suit anyone staying a month or more: ฿3,500 for 5 hours, ฿6,500 for 10 hours and ฿12,000 for 20 hours, each with an expiry window. That works out at roughly ฿600 to ฿700 an hour, whatever time you play.
For comparison, a green-season all-in round at Chiang Mai Highlands runs ฿3,400 (CMGT Golf, 2026). Two hours in a simulator bay for a pair costs about a third of one player's round there. Food and drinks at the bay are extra, so budget a little more if you plan to stay through the storm.
When does rain actually stop golf in Chiang Mai?
Mostly in the afternoons from June to October, with September usually the wettest month at around 249 mm over 18 rainy days.
Weather and Climate's 50-year September average (accessed 2026-10-15) puts September at about 249 mm. Other sources put it lower, which tells you the variation year to year is large. October is lighter, and from November the dry season starts.
The typical green-season pattern is a usable morning, then a build-up of cloud and a short, heavy storm somewhere after lunch. A 07:00 tee time usually finishes before the storm arrives. A 12:30 tee time often does not. Our best tee times guide covers the timing in detail.
Is a simulator a good substitute for a real Chiang Mai round?
For practice and fun, yes. As a replacement for the course, no: no Paspalum grain, no mountain air, and no caddie reading the break.
Be honest about what a simulator gives you. It gives carry numbers, club gapping and a dry place to keep your swing loose. It does not give you the grainy greens at Alpine Golf Resort or the lies off soft green-season fairways. The ball flight differences we cover in our altitude and ball flight piece also do not show up on a screen.
Our view: use the simulator to check gapping on day one, or to save a washed-out afternoon. Do not plan a trip that leans on it.
What is the best wet-day plan if I am already on a golf trip?
Tee off early, finish by lunch, then choose between a simulator bay, an evening round, or a massage, depending on when the storm clears.
Here is how we run a rainy-season day:
- 06:30 pickup, first tee by 07:00 to 07:30.
- 11:30 to 12:00 off the course, lunch at the clubhouse.
- Storm arrives: simulator bay from 13:00 at ฿600 an hour, or straight to a post-round Thai massage.
- Storm clears by 17:00: a night round at Gassan Legacy (฿1,650 night rate, all-in, CMGT Golf 2026) or the floodlit 9 holes at Star Dome.
Night golf is the real answer to afternoon storms. Evenings after rain are cooler, the courses are quiet, and your caddie will know within minutes whether the course has drained enough to play. If it has not, you have lost nothing but a short drive.
Which courses are closest to a dry backup?
Lanna Golf Club and Star Dome sit close to the Old City, so a weather gap does not mean a long round trip.
If the sky looks uncertain, play close to town. Lanna Golf Club is around 10 to 15 minutes from the Old City and is one of the more relaxed, local-feeling rounds in the valley. North Hill is a short drive from the city and a strong value round. Both keep you within easy reach of Star Dome or the Marriott if the storm wins.
The far-out courses, like Gassan Khuntan, take 45 minutes or more each way. Losing that round to rain costs you most of the day. Save them for drier days, and ask us which courses suit the forecast when you plan your trip.
What are the downsides of Chiang Mai's simulator options?
Few venues, the best one in the north of the city, uneven opening hours, and at least one closure since 2025. Check before you go.
The trade-offs, plainly:
- Location. The Golf Club CNX is in San Sai, north of the city. From a Nimman or Old City hotel it is a car ride, not a walk. Confirm drive time with your driver.
- Hours. It is closed Mondays. The Marriott rooms only run in the evening, so a wet Monday afternoon has fewer choices.
- Closures. Golf Point Center shut in 2025. Listings online lag reality.
- Grab in the rain. Ride-hailing gets slow and expensive during a storm, especially with a golf bag. That is when a pre-booked driver earns its money.
Does a golf package help when the weather turns?
Yes, mainly through logistics: early tee times requested, caddies and carts arranged, and a private driver who can change the plan in one call.
A CMGT Golf trip bundles green fees, caddies, carts, hotel, private driver, airport transfers and on-the-ground support. In green season the driver matters most. When a storm closes the course at 13:00, you are not standing in the clubhouse waiting for a Grab.
For a short wet-season visit, the Weekend Warrior (3 nights, 3 rounds) or Northern Value (4 nights, 3 rounds) leave room for a spare afternoon. If you want to understand the season before you commit, read our best time for golf in Chiang Mai guide.
How it works: you send your dates and group size, we reply with a quote and a suggested course order, and once you confirm we request tee times with each course. We are enquiry-driven, so nothing is locked until we have confirmed availability with you.
The honest caveat: if you only want one round, booking direct can be cheaper. A package pays off from about three rounds, when the transport and tee times start to add up.

Is there a public golf simulator in Chiang Mai?
Yes, but only a few. The clearest option in October 2026 is The Golf Club CNX in San Sai district, with three air-conditioned simulator bays from ฿600 per hour per bay in the daytime and ฿800 per hour from 17:00. The Chiang Mai Marriott runs private simulator rooms inside The Wang Bar, open evenings only. Star Dome near the Old City has a large range and has been listed with a simulator, but that listing is dated, so confirm before you go. At least one indoor golf centre in the city closed in 2025, so always check before travelling across town.
How much does a golf simulator cost in Chiang Mai?
At The Golf Club CNX, a bay costs ฿600 per hour between 11:00 and 17:00 and ฿800 per hour from 17:00 to 21:00, with up to six players per bay (their pricing page, accessed 2026-10-15). A four-ball sharing a daytime hour pays about ฿150 each. Prepaid packs bring the hourly rate down to roughly ฿600 to ฿700: ฿3,500 for 5 hours, ฿6,500 for 10 hours or ฿12,000 for 20 hours. Hotel bar simulators price differently and change often, so ask the venue directly for a current rate before you book.
Can I still play real golf in Chiang Mai during the rainy season?
Usually, yes. Green season runs roughly May to October, and the typical pattern is a dry or lightly cloudy morning with a short, heavy storm in the afternoon. September is usually the wettest month, averaging about 249 mm of rain over roughly 18 rainy days (Weather and Climate, 50-year average, accessed 2026-10-15). Book the earliest tee time you can, aim to be off the course by early afternoon, and keep the simulator as a backup for the days a storm arrives early or sits over the valley all day.
Do I need to bring my own clubs to a Chiang Mai golf simulator?
No. The Golf Club CNX says clubs are provided and you can bring your own, though it does not publish a rental fee, so ask when you book. If you are already on a golf trip with your own bag, bring it: the simulator numbers are only useful if they come from your own clubs. Wear clean, flat-soled shoes rather than metal spikes on indoor mats, and expect a relaxed dress code compared with the collared-shirt rule at Chiang Mai's outdoor courses.
Is a golf package worth it if rain might cancel rounds?
It depends on how many rounds you plan. The value of a CMGT Golf package in green season is less about the green fee and more about the logistics: early tee times requested for you, caddies and carts arranged, and a private driver already booked for the day. If a storm closes a course, switching to an indoor bay or an evening round is one conversation with your driver. If you only plan a single round, booking direct can be cheaper. Send us your dates through the golf page and we will quote honestly.
