Weekday Golf Rates in Chiang Mai vs Weekend Crowds 2026

Weekday golf rates in Chiang Mai match weekend rates at almost every course. What changes is crowds, pace and tee times. Here is how to plan your days.

By The Chiang Mai Go Tours team05 Oct 20269 min read

Weekday golf rates in Chiang Mai are the same as weekend rates at almost every course: on one agent's 2026-27 northern Thailand rate sheet, only one course charges a weekend premium. What changes at weekends is crowds, pace of play and tee-time choice. Schedule your priority rounds Tuesday to Thursday, and expect the season, not the day, to move your bill.

Do Chiang Mai golf courses charge more at weekends?

Almost none do. Most Chiang Mai courses publish one daily rate for every day, and the one regional exception adds ฿400 at weekends.

This surprises golfers used to weekend pricing at home. A Chiang Mai agent's published rate sheet for 1 November 2026 to 31 March 2027 lists one daily all-in rate (green fee, caddie fee and cart) for Alpine, Highlands, Royal Chiang Mai, Summit Green Valley, North Hill, all three Gassan courses, Inthanon, Artitaya and Waterford Valley. Only Santiburi Country Club Chiang Rai splits weekday and weekend, at ฿2,850 against ฿3,250 in high season (Chiang Mai Golfing rate sheet, accessed 2026-10-05).

The courses' own rate cards say the same thing. The Royal Chiang Mai Golf Club lists 18 holes at ฿2,800 "everyday", with 9 holes after 3:00 pm at ฿1,600 (Royal Chiangmai official golf rate, accessed 2026-10-05). Notice that the agent all-in rate below is lower than that rack green fee. Agents buy tee times in volume, so a walk-in rate at the counter is often the most expensive way to play.

What do Chiang Mai courses cost per round in 2026?

Agent all-in daily rates run roughly ฿1,900 to ฿3,550 in the green season and ฿2,500 to ฿4,950 from 1 November, the same price every day.

Every course above has a directory page in our Chiang Mai golf courses section, including Alpine Golf Resort, Chiangmai Highlands, Summit Green Valley, North Hill, Gassan Legacy, Gassan Khuntan, Gassan Panorama and Chiangmai Inthanon.

A rough guide to what the price buys: the top tier (Alpine, Highlands, Summit) is the courses with championship history, mountain views or the most consistent greens. The middle tier (North Hill, the Gassan trio) offers strong layouts at a lower rate, and the Gassan courses sit around an hour south in Lamphun. The value tier (Royal Chiang Mai, Inthanon) plays well for the money and suits a second or third round in a week.

If price is flat, what actually changes at weekends?

Crowds, pace and tee-time choice. Saturday and Sunday mornings fill with local golfers, and rounds close to five hours become normal at popular courses.

Weekend demand in Chiang Mai comes from three groups. Thai golfers from the city play Saturday and Sunday mornings, often in large groups with plenty of social time on the course. Expat society groups book block tee times on fixed weekend days. And Bangkok golfers fly up for two nights on a flight of a little over an hour to CNX.

What we see on a busy Saturday from our own bookings: the 6:30 to 9:00 window goes first, singles and pairs get grouped with strangers, and rounds stretch toward five hours. Midweek, the same course plays closer to four to four and a half hours. Mae Jo, north of the city and popular with local golfers, is one of the courses where weekend demand shows most.

Which days of the week should I play my best course?

Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday morning. You get first pick of tee times, quicker pace, and a group that is not pushed by the four-ball behind.

Put the rounds you flew for in that midweek window. For most visitors that means Alpine, Highlands or Summit Green Valley. Use Saturday and Sunday for a round where pace matters less, a night round, or a rest day. Our best tee times in Chiang Mai guide covers the hour-by-hour detail of heat, light and pace.

Monday is a weaker choice for your top round. It follows the two busiest days, and some clubs schedule course work early in the week. Maintenance days vary by course and change through the year, so confirm before you lock in a Monday.

Does time of day matter more than day of week?

Often it does. Some courses price by time of day, with afternoon and floodlit night rounds cheaper than the morning slot.

The real discounts in Chiang Mai come from the clock, not the calendar. In the green season, Summit Green Valley's green fee was ฿2,200 in the morning and ฿2,100 in the afternoon. Gassan Legacy runs floodlit night golf at ฿1,650 all-in against ฿1,950 by day. North Hill's night green fee was ฿1,200 against ฿1,600 by day (Chiang Mai Golf Club rates, accessed 2026-10-05).

Night golf also solves the weekend problem. A Saturday evening round at Gassan Legacy or North Hill, close to the airport, avoids the morning crowd and the midday heat. In-city options include Star Dome, a floodlit 9-hole course. Reported fees there are dated, so confirm the live rate before you go.

How much does the season change the price?

Far more than the day of the week. High season, from 1 November, adds ฿300 to ฿1,550 per round at the main Chiang Mai courses.

Using the agent rates in the table above: Gassan Legacy rises ฿1,550, Alpine ฿1,400, Summit ฿1,300, Highlands ฿800 and Royal Chiang Mai only ฿300. Four rounds at the top-tier courses in December can cost around ฿3,000 to ฿5,500 more than the same trip in October, and no choice of weekday will claw that back.

If budget drives your dates, the green season (April to October) is the lever. The trade-off is afternoon storms, usually heaviest from August to October, so morning tee times are the safer bet. Courses are green and quiet, and you often have a choice of tee times without booking far ahead. Our best time for golf in Chiang Mai guide compares every month. Also check the burning season golf guide before booking February to April, when air quality can be poor.

How do Thai public holidays affect tee times?

Published rates rarely change, but long weekends fill tee sheets like Saturdays and city hotels price up. Book earlier around holiday dates.

Dates to watch: Chulalongkorn Day (23 October) at the end of the green season, then King Bhumibol's birthday (5 December, a Saturday in 2026), Constitution Day (10 December), New Year, and Songkran (13 to 15 April). Bangkok residents travel north on these weekends, and some clubs run member events that close the course to visitors for part of the day. Thai holiday dates can shift when a substitute day is declared, so check the official calendar for your year.

If your dates overlap one, our booking lead time by season guide shows how far ahead to secure tee times.

What is the honest downside of planning around weekdays?

There is no weekday discount to chase, so a midweek-only plan saves time and stress, not money. A weekend-only trip still works fine.

If you only have a Friday to Monday, do not cancel the trip because of weekend crowds. Take early or late tee times, accept a slower round at the busiest course, and put your best round on Friday or Monday. Our Weekend Warrior package (3 nights, 3 rounds) is built for this shape of trip.

The bigger risk at weekends is finding no tee time at all at your chosen course in high season. That is where booking method matters more than day choice, which we cover in booking golf direct vs through an agent.

Does a golf package make sense when green fees are flat?

For one round, booking direct is usually as cheap. For three or more rounds, a package buys tee-time security, transfers and someone handling changes.

A package does not save a weekend surcharge because there usually is not one. What it covers is the rest of the trip: tee times on the days and hours you want, caddies and carts arranged, a private driver for 30 to 45 minute transfers each way, your hotel, airport pickup, and on-the-ground support when weather or a tournament closes a course. If you book transfers yourself, a private round trip to a course typically runs ฿1,400 to ฿2,500 depending on distance.

For a midweek-heavy itinerary, the Northern Value package (4 nights, 3 rounds) suits golfers who want the premium rounds Tuesday to Thursday. Every itinerary on our Chiang Mai golf holidays page is quoted on enquiry and confirmed with a deposit, so you can ask for your rounds on specific days. Tip your caddie ฿400 to ฿600 per 18 in cash on top of any rate, as covered in our caddie culture and tipping guide.

Frequently asked questions

Are weekday golf rates cheaper than weekend rates in Chiang Mai?

Almost never. On one Chiang Mai agent's published 2026-27 rate sheet for northern Thailand, only Santiburi in Chiang Rai charges more at weekends, a ฿400 premium. Alpine, Highlands, Royal Chiang Mai, Summit Green Valley, North Hill, the three Gassan courses and Inthanon all quote one daily rate. Royal Chiang Mai's own rate card lists 18 holes at ฿2,800 'everyday'. The real price swing is seasonal: Alpine's agent all-in rate rises from ฿3,550 in the green season to ฿4,950 from 1 November. Plan rounds around crowds and tee times, not around a weekday discount that does not exist.

Which days are busiest on Chiang Mai golf courses?

Saturday and Sunday mornings, plus Thai public holidays and the long weekends around them. Local Thai golfers, expat society groups and Bangkok golfers on a short flight all fill the 6:30 to 9:00 tee window. In our experience as operators, a Saturday morning at a popular course can run close to a five-hour round, against roughly four to four and a half hours midweek. High season (November to February) also brings weekday tour groups from Korea, Japan and China, so a Tuesday in December is not guaranteed quiet either. Afternoon tee times are the easiest to find any day of the week.

Should I schedule my best course on a weekday?

Yes, if you can. Put your priority rounds, the ones you flew for such as Alpine or Highlands, on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday morning. You get a better choice of tee times, faster pace and a group that does not feel rushed by the four-ball behind. Use the weekend for a course where pace matters less, a night round at Gassan Legacy or North Hill, or a rest day. Monday is a weaker choice for your most important round, as it follows the busiest two days and some clubs schedule course work early in the week. Confirm with the course or your operator.

Do public holidays in Thailand change golf prices?

At most Chiang Mai courses, no, the published daily rate stays the same on holidays. What changes is demand. Long weekends such as Chulalongkorn Day (23 October), King Bhumibol's birthday (5 December), Constitution Day (10 December), New Year and Songkran (13 to 15 April) fill tee sheets like a Saturday, and hotels in the city price up. Some courses run member events or tournaments on holidays and may close to visitors for part of the day. If your trip overlaps one of these dates, book tee times earlier than you normally would and confirm the course is open to visitors.

Is a golf package worth it if green fees are the same every day?

It depends on how many rounds you play. A package does not save you a weekend surcharge, because there usually is not one. What it saves is the work: tee times secured on the days and times you want, a private driver for 30 to 45 minute transfers each way, caddies and carts arranged, and someone to rebook when a storm or a tournament closes a course. For a single round, booking direct is often as cheap or cheaper. For three or more rounds across a week, especially in high season, a package removes most of the tee-time risk.
