A Chiang Mai golf honeymoon works best as five to seven nights with two or three rounds and a rest day after each round for the spa, temples and food. Go from November to February for cool mornings and choose a course with a proper spa, such as Chiang Mai Highlands. Avoid the March haze. If you want the sea as well, add a beach leg at the end.
Why choose Chiang Mai for a golf honeymoon in Thailand?
Chiang Mai has more than a dozen courses within about 45 minutes, cool mornings in season, plus spas, temples and food, so neither of you ends up as a spectator.
Most Thailand golf honeymoons go to Phuket or Hua Hin. Both are good. Chiang Mai is different, with mountain views, Lanna temples and a slower pace. Green-season all-in rates in 2026 run from about ฿1,400 at Chiangmai Inthanon to ฿3,700 at Alpine Golf Resort (CMGT Golf, 2026). The airport is about 4 km from the Old City, so you can land and reach most central hotels in around 20 minutes.
Most courses are a 25 to 45 minute private transfer from the city. You can play in the morning and still be back for a late lunch by the river. Evenings are relaxed: the Sunday walking street, dinner in Nimman, or a quiet night at the resort.

Which Chiang Mai course suits a honeymoon couple best?
Chiang Mai Highlands. The course is in excellent condition and the spa is on site, so one of you can play while the other relaxes.
Chiang Mai Highlands Golf and Spa is a 27-hole resort course in the hills east of the city, with the golf and spa side by side. The resort's own site (accessed 2026-09-26) presents the spa as part of the golf experience. A green-season round costs ฿3,400 all-in: ฿2,250 green fee, ฿400 caddie and ฿750 cart (CMGT Golf, 2026).

What if only one of us plays golf?
Keep the golf to short mornings. The golfer tees off around 7:00 and is back by early afternoon, which leaves the rest of each day to spend together.
This is the honeymoon we plan most. A typical day looks like this: the golfer plays, the partner books a spa morning or a Chiang Mai cooking class, and you meet for a late lunch. Some partners ride along for the views. A non-player riding in the cart usually pays no caddie fee, but policies vary, so we check with each course when we confirm.
On non-golf days, plan things you both enjoy. A slow morning at Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a Thai massage in the Old City, a day trip to Doi Inthanon or an evening at a night market all fit easily around the rounds.
Can a non-golfing partner learn to play on the trip?
Yes. Chiang Mai has easy, cheap nine-hole options and patient caddies, so a first lesson or a relaxed nine holes makes a fun morning together.
Lanna Golf Club is about 10 minutes from the Old City, has a green fee of around ฿1,350 and still allows walking. Chiang Mai Gymkhana is a historic club founded in 1898. A first-timer does best with an hour at a driving range, then nine holes late in the afternoon when the course is quiet. Caddies at the smaller clubs are used to beginners. They will help with club choice and keep you moving without making anyone feel rushed.
When is the best time of year for a golf honeymoon in Chiang Mai?
November to February, for cool mornings, clear skies and low humidity. This is also peak season, so book tee times and hotels early.
On the highland courses, early mornings are around 15-22C, with daytime highs of about 28-32C. January is usually the coolest month. June to October is the green season. Should we worry about the burning season?
Yes. It runs from roughly mid-January to mid-April and peaks in March. Poor air can spoil the golf and the romance, so avoid March if you can.
Most honeymoon brochures leave this out. During the burning season, Chiang Mai's PM2.5 readings can climb to levels that put the city among the most polluted in the world for days at a time. What does a golf honeymoon in Chiang Mai cost?
The golf is easy to budget: roughly ฿1,400 to ฿3,700 per round in green season. Your choice of hotel makes up most of the total.
To compare with the market, Golfasian's Chiang Mai packages (accessed 2026-09-26) start at ฿8,500 for three days and two nights and ฿19,500 for five days and four nights per golfer, including hotel, transfers and tee times. Does a package beat booking each round ourselves?
For three or more rounds, usually yes, because we handle the private transfers, tee times and any changes. For a single round, booking direct can cost less.
A pre-booked private return transfer to a course costs about ฿1,400-2,500. Grab is cheap but unreliable for 6:30 pickups with golf bags. On a honeymoon, the real value is having nothing to organise. What should we pack and wear?
Collared shirts, tailored shorts or trousers and soft spikes. No denim and no sandals. Bring a light layer for cool-season mornings in the hills.
If you both play, the dress code applies to you both. Our Chiang Mai golf dress code guide has the full rules. Every major course rents clubs, usually for around ฿1,000-1,500 a set, but prices vary, so confirm when you book. A partner who is not playing needs nothing special, just a hat and sunscreen for the cart. Pack a cap, a spare glove and insect repellent for dawn tee times. Is Chiang Mai a good place for a golf honeymoon in Thailand?
Yes, if you want golf, culture and cool mountain air more than a beach. Chiang Mai has more than a dozen courses within about 45 minutes of the city. We usually cap it at three rounds in a week so the trip still feels like a honeymoon and not a golf tour with a partner attached.
When is the best month for a golf honeymoon in Chiang Mai?
November to February. Mornings are cool, roughly 15-22C on the highland courses, skies are clear and humidity is low. This is also peak season, so tee times and good hotels book up and prices are at their highest. Avoid March, when the burning season often pushes AQI above 150 and can send it much higher on the worst days. June to October is cheaper and green, with short afternoon storms, so book morning tee times. If your dates are fixed in March, think about playing in Hua Hin or Phuket instead.
How many rounds should we plan on a honeymoon?
Two to three rounds across five nights works for most couples. That leaves a free day between rounds for a spa, temples, or a lie-in. Four rounds in five days suits a couple where both of you play seriously. Do we need to tip caddies on a Chiang Mai golf honeymoon?
Yes. Most Thai courses give every player a caddie, and at most courses it is compulsory. The caddie fee, roughly ฿300-400 in Chiang Mai, goes to the course and is usually included in all-in rates. The tip is separate. You pay it in cash straight to your caddie after the round, and ฿400-600 per 18 holes is normal, more for excellent service.
